This year's theme adds a level of innovation to the legendary bash.

Traditionally, the Annual Village Halloween Parade is a lot of creative, wild, unabashed fun. This year is sure to be the same, yet the theme also makes the legendary event innovative. According to Time Out New York, this year’s theme is “I of the Beholder”, which aims to explore how technology and digital media have transformed how we live and communicate. Master puppeteer Alex Kahn notes the inspiration as the following:

“When you have this spectacular performance with 13 18-foot-tall puppets, you expect there will be this thunderous applause. Instead, there was this weird silence. What we realized, after this strange ten-second delay, was that everyone had a device in their hand to capture the moment. It became more important for all these people to capture this amazing thing, to have it and disseminate it, than it was to actually be there and experience it.”

Judging from the behind the scenes photos, I’m sure the same kind of awe will overtake everyone in attendance.

39th Annual Village Halloween Parade, Oct 31 at 7pm. To walk in the parade, line up at Sixth Ave between Canal and Spring Sts. 6:30–8:30pm.

A West Village haunt with a chic and comfy vibe.

Tucked away in the West Village is dell’anima, an Italian haunt with a small and romantic, yet bustling dining room and a local, appreciative crowd. The chef, Gabe Thomas, has worked with the greatest at Le Bernadin and Del Posto, which is evident in the well-positioned menu. Although the servings are a bit small, each is perfectly cooked, and the servers have a true sense of the menu and wine selection; offering a perfect pairing for each person at the table. Desserts aren’t forgotten either; pastry chef Katherine Thomas’ menu, particularly the tiramisu, is worth a visit alone.

What’s great about dell’anima, as many of the restaurants featured on this blog, is its classy yet unpretentious vibe that seats the after work crowd easily among intimate tables for two. However, the cozy and inviting atmosphere doesn’t mean one should dress casual. Go for a look that’s as simple, comfortable and carefully crafted as the restaurant’s atmosphere suggests. Lately I’ve been lusting over these great dresses from LnA. Pair with a pair of statement boots (perhaps Merona?) and some signature jewelry for an outfit ready for dinner, and whatever comes after.

Just remember to make a reservation in advance. Unless you’re interested in sitting at the hustling, entertaining chef’s table and talk over comforting din of the kitchen, you’ll be waiting quite a while for a table.

Create the perfect Valentine's Day for the man in your life. Here's some stylish ideas for the classic man.

Valentine’s Day is next week, and we’re still looking for the perfect gifts for the perfect man. Whether the person you’re shopping for is a lover or a friend, check out our posts this week on what to get for the classic man, trendster, bohemian love, or eco-chic cutie. Today, we tackle the classic man, who may be so easy-going, it’s hard to find the perfect present. The trick is to go simple, with tried-and-true gifts with a personal touch.

If your man’s like mine, and won’t give up his bulky, cracked, well-worn wallet, give him a nudge in the right direction with a new one. This wallet from Rag & Bone offers the basic, brown leather look with a twist, keeping your man stylish without him even realizing it.

A gift card to Onassis will do both you and your man good. With their Americana styles and in-store cafe, not only will he receive an amazing shopping experience, but come home with an amazing, simple and well-tailored new outfit. Plus, Onassis gives complimentary chocolates with every purchase, so you can give a cutesy Valentine’s gift indirectly. Onassis is located on Soho between Spring and Greene.

I’m sure you’re classic man played a varsity sport in high school, and I’m sure his varsity jacket was given away many relationships ago. Bring back that sense of belonging with a Nike Sportswear letterman-inspired jacket, completed with a touch of edge to make it more than simply homecoming.

To end (or begin) the night right, check out Little Branch in the West Village for some post-dinner drinks. The small, low-key and cozy lounge serves unique and personally crafted cocktails. Although some worry about the wait, there’s usually no crowds after ten, and perhaps you’ll catch a jazz band during Valentine’s Day weekend.

Yesterday my friend and I wandered to the West Village for a long and leisurely brunch at the Spotted Pig. Nestled in a quaint corner, hidden behind fall foliage and adorned with various pig ornaments, the Spotted Pig is a cute and kitschy establishment. Despite the small dining area, the restaurant doesn’t get noisy when busy, and the wait isn’t long; we enjoyed specialty cocktails and coffee at the bar before being seated. The brunch menu is diverse, with rich, buttery foods ranging from the classic scrambled eggs platter to decadent French toast and a Dutch Baby plate with powdered sugar and bacon. The Spotted Pig is known for their Chargrilled Burger with Roquefort Cheese & Shoestrings, and every other plate that left the kitchen was heaped with the golden goodness of fries. The servers were all friendly and helpful, and it seemed that the tips are split among the entire staff, for each employee seemed responsible for everyone’s well being, and the bartender didn’t make us pay at the bar before sitting down, which made the experience even more enjoyable.

The restaurant, its patrons and the service exudes comfy, easygoing style, and we pulled inspiration from the nearby boutiques for the perfect Sunday brunch at The Spotted Pig outfit. We recommend a cozy wrap-around sweater, like the one pictured above from Polo Ralph Lauren, with boots and Marc by Marc Jacobs accessories. This, paired with the cozy atmosphere of The Spotted Pig and one of their signature brunch cocktails, is sure to bring your week to a relaxed end.

This week’s Sunday Brunch brings us to Greenwich Village, the bohemian hub of the city, and to a fresh and flavorful hidden gem called Perilla. With just 18 tables and 10 seats at the bar, the restaurant doesn’t look like a place to accommodate anything but the locals, but the welcoming atmosphere disagrees, and we were greeted by soft, warm lighting, unique handmade wooden tables , and extremely personable staff.

The restaurant prides itself on using fresh seasonal ingredients for its American style cuisine, and the food didn’t disappoint. Everything was perfectly seasoned, light and savory, and served in a prompt manner. The vanilla bourbon syrup on the French toast was absolutely amazing, and the eggs were both fluffy and filling.

The friendly and earthy environment with a relaxed local crowd translates easily into an outfit. We recommend a comfy, oversized sweater with tights and a breezy top, paired with your favorite pair of boots and a scarf. Check out Anthropologie’s current “Mix and Mingle” outfits for inspiration, and slip into Perilla for a pre-holiday indulgence.

Recently Julian Schnabel had to sell a 1971 Picasso to maintain payments on the building. I adore this building and it looks like some lucky person will get a great deal on a very special apartment.
