Where Coffee Lovers Should Live in New York City

Williamsburg: as the area gentrifies quickly, while maintaining its quirky, off-beat vibe, a lot f great artisan coffee shops are popping up all around Willamsburg. Blue Bottle is a classic, and Aussie favorite Toby’s Estate Coffee is quickly setting trends for both coffeeshop quality and coffeeshop design. Staples like Gimme Coffee and Second Stop are serving up old-time favorites, and who can forget the simple, fast-serve cups of joe from The Bagel Store or Bagelsmith?

East Village: The contender to Williamsburg’s coffee scene has a lot more spark and snark. Places like Ninth Street Espresso and Abraco have gotten some negative feedback from their obsessive nature to getting each cup right, but their attention to detail makes a drink so great it can’t be argued. Looking for more of a relaxed environment? Try OST Cafe.

Lafayette St.: not only was this area recently named Latte Row by the NYTimes, it feels as if new places are being added every day. La Colombe is the perfect mid-morning pick-me-up with arguably the best espresso out there, and Gasoline Alley Coffee brings a fresh twist to the classic coffeeshop standard. Of course, there’s Think as well, although it might not be attractive to any other than NYC college students, many of who are moving into Au Breve’s relaxed cafe.

Anywhere: another interesting trend is the online specialty coffee shops delivering personalized views to your doorstep, making your cup of coffee as personalized and convenient as possible.
