Tucked away on Orchard St., almost invisible between ironic hipster coffeeshops and bodegas, is Zucco Le French Diner, a quaint recluse of authenticity and comfort. Seating twelve people at best, with only a small stove and two cooks creating all the dishes, Zucco is nothing but real, even down to the vintage French decorations and Parisian wineglasses. According to NYMag, the eponymous owner Zucco took as his business model the typical French truck stop. “If one day you are driving along the Routes Nationale,” he says, “and you pass a restaurant with a lot of trucks parked outside, you can go in knowing that the food will be good and cheap.” And indeed it is, whether it’s the Le Pain Perdu for brunch or Le Confit De Canard A La Viennoise with a glass of wine as night turns to day. Looking forward to spending many a languid evening here in the future.
