Au Naturale Next Year

It seems a growing trend in both interior design and fashion for the year ahead is “au naturale” – making products that speak through structure and design as opposed to color and prints. Perhaps the industries are exhausted by the loud, bold pieces that turned heads this year. I’m personally looking forward to palettes like these for the year ahead.

Thakoon’s Pre-Fall ‘12 collection is leading the movement. I love the classic, boyish looks, kept feminine and soft with a cool color collection that warranting attention, not screaming for it. I think the beauty lies in the structure of the pieces, many subtly accentuating the waist and others adding volume without making the overall look bulky.

This Kora bow-tie necklace keeps the preppy, feminine look going. Handmade with recycled brass and an Ankole cow horn, it has a constructed look that doesn’t overwhelm.

Lastly, I’m really into iPad cases that make the device appear less tech and more lifestyle, like this leather case from BE & D. Besides from being durable and well-made, it’s soft and has a classy look that says “Chanel” before “32GB”.

Living in this style would include classic fixtures, a rosy marble, and lots of breezy beautiful light.
