The history of jazz in Brooklyn is faded, not forgotten. A popular haunt that once housed performances by greats such as Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, Etta James and Thelonious Monk is now an abandoned structure on the corner of Grand and Dean St. Upstairs from the classic Putnam Central Club, Charlie Mingus and Max Roach were producing hits under the company Debut Records. Freddie Hubbard and Lee Morgan brought trumpeters centerstage by recording live at Club LaMarchal on Nostrand Avenue and President Street. This site is making valiant efforts to collect all memories of a borough that encapsulated jazz’s heyday.
