As one of many incredible art exhibitions this summer, the exhibition David Bowie, Artist is most anticipated. Opening on May 9, it will feature a film series – from 1973’s Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars and 1983’s The Hunger to 1996’s Basquiat – plus a new 35mm print of 1976’s The Man Who Fell To Earth. Madmuseum.org has called it ”a multi-platform retrospective re-framing Bowie’s daring, multi-discipline career as that of an artist working primarily in performance.”
The exhibition is fitting, for Bowie came to New York forty years ago and fell in love with its energy and endless opportunities. His favorite places include Washington Square, Julian Schnabel’s house, and Strand Bookshop, and is also one of the founders of Soho House. The streets gave him the inspiration to become one of the most celebrated performers in history. More about his journeys and experiences in the city can be found here.
The exhibition will run at the Museum of Art and Design from May 9th to July 15th.
