The promise of spring ahead drew me and a close friend to Isabella’s (http://www.isabellas.com) on the Upper West Side for a perfect, lazy brunch. Although the weather had just turned to chilly by Sunday, there were a few guests making the waning sun work for them, and enjoyed themselves dining in the breeze. We grabbed a table in the airy yet cozy dining room, and settled ourselves in with a few mimosas.
The waitstaff here is always attentive and friendly, and in minutes, it seemed, the food was served. Two large, perfectly cooked dishes; the goat cheese, basil and tomato omelette was light and fluffy, and the grilled skewered chicken was intense and flavorful. Their parmesan cheese fries, though, are their best-kept secret, and a rich indulgence.
Whether indoors or out, Isabella’s is a great place for people-watching. The restaurant is usually filled with many local couples and small families, there to spend quality time with one another. All are dressed in light and loose layers, with an air of casual elegance. Reminiscent of these gorgeous maxi skirts from Rag & Bone that beg to be fluttering in the breeze on an outdoor patio under a glow of spring sunshine, good food and good company.
