Black Swoon

If you’ve seen Black Swan, you’ve probably obsessed with the dramatic looks the stars rocked while emotionally unraveling from the pressures of the ballerina lifestyle. If you haven’t seen it, your loss. We’re taking a few steps out of the movie to create the perfect outfit for dancing around the city in, even if we can’t plié. This comfy, muss-free ensemble will keep you en pointe regardless of the day.

The Hair:

Lanvin’s topknots have taken over the fashion world with their simple, easy chic. Make that updo last in the New York City weather with heavy-duty styling wax, like Sumotech from Bumble and Bumble.

The Skirt:

A typical ballerina tutu takes yards upon yards of tulle. Try a care-free option like this D&G cotton tulle skirt, available at Saks Fifth Avenue.

The Leggings:

The Rodarte designers called upon dancewear expert Yumiko to complete the Black Swan costumes.  Their comfortable and durable pieces are a staple in many a dancer’s wardrobe, and can be a new staple to yours, too, available on the Yumiko site.

The Sweater:

Nothing’s better than stealing your boyfriend’s sweater when it’s cold out. For those of us smart, single gals, snag a men’s cashmere sweater at JCrew. The oversized sweater with a tulle skirt makes the outfit perfectly disheveled.

The Eyes:

The film’s makeup department head Margie Durand revealed the beauty tips behind the gorgeous makeup  in Black Swan. Complete this urban ballerina look with a swipe of long-lasting M.A.C Chromaline in Black Black.

The Shoes:

Of course, this look wouldn’t be complete without ballerina shoes. Don’t fret, these flats from Tods are made for hitting the streets, with rubber bottoms and made from leather or suede. (More colors featured in image above.)
