Our first Friday Appraisals is to highlight the latest developments that have made New Yorkers stop and smile, if only for a second, and remind them of why we’re here.
Our favorite local hero, the East Village grilled cheese dealer serving up cheesy creations on the “black market” through “Bread.Butter.Cheese.” is abandoning his services to become a manager of a high-end American restaurant in Midtown, which we’re sure will be a match made in heaven. As the NYC hotel scene becomes increasingly competitive, the Grand Hyatt has invested $130 million into a complete overhaul, transforming their rooms with lush colors, internationally know designers and museum-quality art to make their rooms resemble “sleek, modern Manhattan residences”. Speaking of gorgeous hotels, we’ve been waiting on hook and clasp for the collaboration between Lanvin and H&M, and the official video didn’t disappoint. Beautifully structured dresses showcased in a classic, elegant hotel. What more could we ask for?
Meanwhile, investors have been waiting on baited breath for the real estate market of Manhattan to fall apart, hoping to score debt at a discount by profiting off of mezzanine loans, a form of higher interest debt. It seems, however, a resurgence of the willingness of lenders to put money out is bolstering the strength of our city’s real estate market. BusinessWeek
The Municipal Art Society of New York released the results of a comprehensive survey reflecting thousand opinions of New Yorkers on the level of livability of our city in 2010, noting how recent changes have affected various neighborhoods in every borough. MASNYC
The result? New Yorkers are positive about their neighborhoods and the city as a whole. They’re living, breathing, and making it work, triumphing through the challenges of change and transition and making this city a beautiful, breathable, inspiring hub of opportunities and excitement, on large and small scales.
