It is a little old fashioned but I have a real weakness for toile, and a few years ago I found out I was not alone. At The Future Perfect I came across the work of Richard Saja who hand embroiders toile patterned fabric and creates something entirely new.

The woman below is staring at Richard’s embroidered Lousiana scene on the walls of The Commanders Palace in the garden district of New Orleans.

Or how about Timorous Beasties? They design what on the surface seems like standard traditional pastoral scenes which on a closer look are a complete perversion.

My favorite wallpaper is from Osbourne and Little and I am planning on using this pattern in my bedroom.

Give toile a chance.
